NewVAConnects and the City of Roanoke (Roanoke, VA) joined to form a private-public partnership to raise the funds to open the first off-leash, fenced, public dog park in Roanoke! We were extremely successful, and have opened Phase I of the dog park! We are going to continue to work on raising funds for Phase II to make the park even better! Please visit our Site Plan to learn more about the design of the dog park and what is left to come.
Highland Dog Park is located within Highland Park on the corner of 5th Street SW and Washington Ave SW in the Historic District of Old Southwest. Don't know how to get there? Visit our directions page for a map!
We would love to know how often you are using Highland Dog Park, as well as any other great stories you have about the park! Please visit our Comments Page to take a quick survey (it's only one question!) and leave your comments.
Local businesses have provided significant assistance in the development of this dog park project. The Roanoke offices of AECOM (formerly known as Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Inc.) contributed company resources and supported the pro bono design services of architects Kevin Bertholf, Kim Hardy, Ay-Chiung Liu and Mike Angle, who teamed to conceptualize and design the dog park. Twist & Turns donated two of their signature custom metal trash receptacles. Additional consideration was provided by Powers Fence Company for the black vinyl-coated chain link fencing, Chandler Concrete and Roanoke Cement in obtaining pervious concrete and Procon Inc. for concrete installation.
To raise funds for continued phases of the dog park’s construction, the Roanoke Dog Park Steering Committee is currently selling commemorative bricks that will be placed at the dog park’s entrance. Engraved bricks can be personalized with the name of a pet, a person or a business. A text-only brick costs $100, while a brick engraved with a corporate logo is $150.
