NewVA Connects is assisting the Roanoke City Council in coming up with the funds to place a new, public, fenced, off-leash dog park in Roanoke City Limits. The proposed site is currently a one acre at Highland Park in Old Southwest in Roanoke, VA. This will be the first off-leash, fenced, public dog park in Roanoke. Over the coming months, we will be working to get a fence up, benches in, trees and shrubery planted, and much more. Please stay tuned to this site to see how you can get involved, as well as what progress we are making.

To create a fenced, off-leash, public dog park where well-behaved canine citizens can run, play and exercise in a clean, safe environment; to develop a beautiful and well-maintained public space open to dog lovers and friends who will uphold the park's rules and regulations; to view the dog park as a community project in partnership with the City of Roanoke and area civic organizations that satisfies the needs of dog owners and non-dog owners alike.

As many of you can tell from the newspaper links, we are in the process of getting approval from the Architectual Review Board for Old Southwest to put a black-coated wire chained link fence at Highland Park. The Old Southwest area is welcoming us iwth open arms and we are excited about their support of a dog park in that community. We are planning several fundraisers for the summer including another dog wash and other exciting events. If you have any fundraising ideas, please feel free to email us at Roanokedogpark@gmail.com with suggestions! posted 6/22/08
We have had two eventful weekends for the month of May - on the 16-18, Fork in the Alley provided 20% of all proceeds to our cause for the weekend. In addition, we did a dog wash at Roanoke City Station #8 (thanks guys!) were we raised an addition $1200! On the 31st were we at Woofstock Festival and had a tailwagging time hanging out with our buddies, as well as other local dog lovers! We finally have a bumper sticker, and will be working towards getting a place on our website to sell our items with proceeds going towards the 1st fenced, public, off-leash dog park in Roanoke! posted on 6/2/08
Last night we had our first fundraiser at Trio Bistro, and what a turn out we had!!! Our judges had to think long and hard about which logo would win our logo contest. It wasn't easy and the competition was fierce! But we did choose one! Thanks to everyone who came out to support us last night, the entire event was a great success (and a lot of fun!)! posted on 5/1/08
